About the job

The holder of the post is responsible for the planning, cleaning and delivery of rolling stock for service in accordance with train presentation standards. Interface with customers/suppliers/ staff to meet business needs with respect to train presentation.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Ensure trains are cleaned and presented for service in accordance with the train presentation standards at Waterloo and assisting with stabling points and depots within the fleet inner area.
  • Carry out train presentation audits in accordance with the train presentation audit plan for Waterloo and, where requested, other train presentation locations. Prepare written reports in conjunction with audits.
  • Conduct safety tour of Waterloo train presentation teams on a periodic basis.
  • Produce KPI's for train presentation areas within direct control.
  • Lead, train, direct and develop all train presentation operatives, including CET operators.
  • Assess staff competency.
  • Conduct fact finding, return to work, attendance management, disciplinary and recruitment interviews to minimise vacancy gaps
  • Actively explore new ways of working for continual improvement.
  • Deliver team meetings, briefings, TWYM to develop staff.
  • Ensure all train presentation work carried out is recorded.
  • Ensure necessary daily train presentation activity is added correctly to SOROS.
  • Ensure compliance with: BS EN 9001:2015 Quality Management system and BS EN 14001:2015 Environment Management Systems.
  • Undertake additional tasks applicable to the role as required by Regional Train Presentation Manager e.g. train presentation related project management.
  • Production of Local brief for train presentation staff as required.
  • Testing of cleaning chemicals.
  • Strive to be the leading train presentation site on the network.

As a minimum, you will need to have:

  • 3 to 5 years experience in transportation presentation is desirable.
  • Understanding of safety legislation and quality procedures with relevant qualifications.
  • Proven knowledge of relevant rolling stock layout/systems
  • A good general education. Assessor qualifications highly desirable.
  • Proven good level of literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
  • Proven material handling experience including auditing
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Knowledge of contract/warranty systems is highly desirable
  • Proven experience of working in a rail environment is highly desirable

Working pattern

You will be working an average of 37 hours across 5 days per week.

5 shifts 0f 7.5 hours Mon to Friday with an expectation that a high proportion of night working will be required

About the location

Bournemouth Depot is home to a number of South Western Railway's fleet. The engineering team at the depot are currently responsible for numerous projects such as the major component overhaul work on the 159 fleet, the Desiro repaint on the class 444's and 450's and the latest modification project on our exciting new Arterio fleet that is set to transform travel on our suburban routes by offering customers much faster and more reliable journeys!
