About the job

SWR's Sustainability Team has set ambitious targets across all aspects of sustainability in our strategy Journey to a Better Future, including a roadmap to be net zero by 2040. This role will interface with all teams across the organisation to help implement and deliver those targets and support the sustainability team in effective reporting and monitoring of environment performance such as carbon emissions. You will be a lead in communicating and engaging internal and external stakeholders on our journey to better and take on projects within the team covering everything from energy reduction innovations to social value projects.

This is a great opportunity to help SWR deliver its ambitious Net Zero target and wider environmental objectives, whilst delivering impactful insights to all areas of the organisation. The key purpose of the Sustainability Analyst is to:
•    Support the team in effective reporting and monitoring of emissions performance and environment management
•    Support projects within the team covering everything from energy reduction innovations to social value projects.
•    Communicate and engage with internal and external stakeholders on our Journey To Better strategy and vision

 

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Responsible for the acquisition, maintenance and validation of carbon data, in Scope 1, 2 and 3
  • Periodically monitor and report environmental data. Use data to provide actionable insights and messages
  • Maintain and improve the existing data reporting and analytical systems (Power BI/Excel)
  • Work with the Sustainability team to deliver targets and improve KPI performance along with reporting progress in period reports
  • Accountable for monitoring water consumption, identifying leaks, liaising with third parties and internal departments to expedite their repair
  • Manage general utilities queries from SWR wide estate including electricity, gas and water
  • Contribute to the organisation's process of managing utilities, sustainability products and services. Working closely with the Billing Validation Bureau to resolve billing issues and identify opportunities for cost savings and liaising between SWR and suppliers to resolve arising issues
  • Engage with stakeholders and work cross functionally to embed sustainability and net zero at all levels
  • Supporting the programme of behavioral change to reduce energy and water consumption
  • Assist with the compliance requirement and auditing including ISO 140001, ISO 50001, ESOS
  • Support the measurement, verification and validation of savings delivered through initiatives
  • Support with key projects and broader sustainability workstream when required
  • Work cross-functionally and build relationships across the business
  • Assist with the management of the sustainability budget and ensuring suppliers are paid in a timely manner

You'll need to be:

  • Experience of analysing and reporting environmental data.
  • Proficient with data analytical and reporting systems including Power BI and Excel
  • Experience in carbon reporting and knowledge of Greenhouse Gas Protocol, in particular within rail industry desirable
  • Experience managing utilities and utility data
  • Ability to manage and deliver multiple projects
  • Great attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Working with stakeholders on improvement plans
  • Excellent communicator and team player
  • Ability to manage own time and work independently
  • Proactive in seeking out improvement opportunities
  • Ability to produce reports to summarise performance, benefits and recommendations
  • Ability to translate data into easily understandable language

Desirable

  • Experience of UK Rail Industry desirable
  • Experience and knowledge of ISO 14001 and 50001 desirable

About the location

South Western Railways HQ is based on the 4th Floor at South Bank Central, a stone's throw from the River Thames and a 10 minute walk from our busiest station, Waterloo. It is local to many well-known attractions, restaurants and retail facilities and is easily accessible by public transport. 

Working pattern

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days 

Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00
