About the job

In collaboration with the wider management team, the maintainer & the ROSCo, drive continuous improvements in rolling stock safety, reliability, availability and quality by ensuring contract compliance, commercial integrity and value for money.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Lead the day-to-day management and governance of key maintenance contracts, including the respective depot and rolling stock leases.
  • Responsible for ensuring contracts deliver high performing fleets and availability targets.
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships service providers and with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver objectives to align with DfT's Delivery Plan and any other strategy in place.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities to fleet delivery and provide mitigation plans where required.
  • Undertake commercial assessment for all spend, relating to the fleet, operational interface and incident recovery.
  • The role holder must seek the Head of Fleet Commercial's authorization for decisions regarding spend and decisions with a cross functional impact.
  • Ensure all statutory legislation, company safety policies and procedures are rigorously applied, followed, and monitored.
  • Maintain certification for ISO 9001, 14001, 18001, 44001 and 55001 where necessary.
  • Deliver at least thirteen safety tours per year.
  • Any other reasonable area/activity as notified in writing from time to time.

You'll need to be:

  • Strong commercial acumen & demonstrable experience in managing contracts and agreements.
  • Relevant Engineering or Operational Qualification.
  • Working understanding of commercial legislation and governance.
  • Good knowledge of statutory health and safety requirements.
  • High level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills.
  • Understanding of legislative policies and procedures.
  • Excellent consulting and negotiation ability.

Working pattern

You will work an average of 37 hours per week across 5 days, typically; Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 15:30, Friday 08:00 - 15:00
