About the job:

You will be responsible for undertaking the refilling and service of water tanks on trains by safely operating a powered water bowser and carrying out cleaning and presentation duties in accordance with Train Presentation Standards and any local instructions.   You will be safe, courteous, and helpful.  You will use only approved equipment, chemicals and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment in accordance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH). 

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Ensure your personal safety and that of others, including that of visitors and contractors at all times.
  • Assist traincrew and station staff in undertaking emergency procedures and evacuation procedures when required.
  • Undertaking the tanking of train using the powered water bowser as required and instructed.
  • Carry out pre-use checks of water bowser in accordance with local instructions reporting all defects/faults.
  • Provide a safe, courteous and helpful service at all times.
  • Comply with the Rules as defined in Network Rail Group Standard, South Western Railways Employee Handbook, other regulations and Instructions, Group Standards and Legislation.
  • To assist customers as appropriate, especially those with special needs or at times of service disruption.
  • Carry out the cleaning and presentation of trains for service in accordance with Train Presentation Standards.
  • Provide managers and supervisors with proactive information that delivers higher and improved train presentation standards.
  • Cleaning of biological hazards as required.
  • Observe COSHH Regulations in place and team adhere to them.
  • Complete paperwork/PC work as required, detailing and signing for all work carried out.
  • Dispose of waste, including bio-waste and sharps in accordance with local instructions.
  • Advise team leader or manager of any problems or defects identified.
  • To undertake additional tasks as required by the local manager applicable to the role.
  • Wear uniform (including name badge) and safety clothing as supplied, ensuring that your standard of appearance and that of your team complies with the company standard and is high at all times.
  • Undertake CB2 team leader duties as required. 

You'll need to have:

  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Resilience
  • PC literate  

Working pattern:

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 4 days

10 hour shifts. Earliest start time 0600, latest finish time 2200.
