Your wellbeing at SWR begins before your first day, with every colleague meeting a member of our Wellbeing Team during their pre‑employment medical. This first interaction sets the tone for a career supported by a team dedicated to your physical, mental and emotional health.
Our multidisciplinary team includes nurses, occupational health technicians, administrators, doctors and physiotherapists. They’re here to support you after illness or injury, help maintain your fitness to work, and provide ongoing assessments for colleagues in safety‑critical roles. Some depot teams also receive specialist care, including vaccinations and regular monitoring such as hearing and lung‑function tests.
Although based in Southampton and London, the team regularly travels across the network to bring their expertise directly into your workplace. Their goal is simple: to keep you safe, supported and thriving throughout your career at SWR.
To support this approach to health and wellbeing, the team runs a programme of activities and events throughout the year. This includes flu vaccination clinics, health screening, financial guidance and workshops that promote healthier lifestyles and improve access to mental health support. They also partner with the Total Active Hub to deliver movement‑based initiatives such as Move for 30 and our five‑a‑side football tournament.
Our network of Mental Health First Aiders and our dedicated SWR mental health website ensure colleagues can quickly find the right support, including our 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme, which is also available to family members.
We are supported across our network by our dedicated team of Mental Health First Aiders.
Our Inclusion and Diversity Team provide advice, support and training around anything to do with ensuring people feel included at SWR.
The people that work for us are vital in delivering excellent customer experience every day and are central to the delivery of our transformation plans.

"Our SWR active hub has enabled a highly engaged and dedicated place in which employees of all fitness levels come together to move more".
-Barbara Davenport, Head of Wellbeing
Our employees benefit from full access to the Total Active Hub, giving everyone the chance to stay active, connected, and supported throughout the year. Through an always‑on programme of solo and team challenges, flagship events, and in‑person activities, the Hub helps build a strong sense of community across all roles and locations.
It provides valuable insight into employee physical wellbeing, helping us shape a proactive and inclusive movement programme.
The Active Trees programme rewards daily movement by planting trees, supporting both personal wellbeing and our sustainability goals.
We’re proud to hold the Investors in People Wellbeing Gold accreditation, recognising our commitment to creating a workplace where wellbeing truly comes first.
