Rail Operator 2

Rail Operators ensure trains are dispatched safely and stations are welcoming, clean and well‑run. Responsibilities include:

  • Safely dispatching trains, ensuring platforms are clear and signals are correctly observed.
  • Assisting customers with boarding, alighting and accessibility needs.
  • Providing clear, friendly and accurate travel information through announcements and face‑to‑face support.
  • Maintaining station standards by carrying out safety checks, cleaning tasks and general upkeep.

Meet & Greet Assistant

Meet & Greet Assistants are a reassuring presence for customers, offering guidance, support and information. Responsibilities include:

  • Keeping customers informed through announcements and personal interactions, creating a warm and helpful experience.
  • Supporting safe and timely train departures by working closely with station and traincrew colleagues.
  • Providing assistance during delays, helping customers navigate the station and to understand their travel options.

Customer Ambassador

Customer Ambassadors help customers start their journeys with confidence. They offer clear advice, support ticket purchases and provide a friendly, knowledgeable presence across the station. Responsibilities include:

  • Approaching customers, offering help with tickets and journey planning.
  • Supporting customers using self‑service machines and coach them on how to use them.
  • Providing clear, friendly information to help customers travel with ease.

Gateline Assistant

Gateline Assistants help customers navigate the station, ensure correct ticketing and support the smooth flow of people through busy areas. Responsibilities include:

  • Operating and monitoring ticket gates.
  • Assisting customers with tickets and journey information.
  • Providing guidance and reassurance during disruption, helping customers stay safe and informed.
  • Acting as a visible, approachable presence for customers throughout the station.

Station Support

Station Support colleagues help keep our stations safe, welcoming and running smoothly. Responsibilities include:

  • Safely dispatching trains, ensuring platforms are clear and signals are correctly observed.
  • Assisting customers with luggage, accessibility needs and boarding.
  • Keeping customers informed through clear announcements and friendly face‑to‑face support.
  • Carrying out a variety of station tasks, from safety checks to cleaning and maintaining a high‑quality environment.

Revenue Protection

Our Revenue Protection teams help keep the railway fair, safe and accessible for everyone who travels with us. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring customers hold the correct tickets, using judgement to sell fares or issue Penalty Fare Notices when appropriate.
  • Working in pairs or groups on trains and at stations, checking tickets and supporting customers with clear, confident guidance.
  • Building strong knowledge of routes, destinations and onward connections to help customers navigate their journeys with ease.
