About the job

The holder of the post is responsible for all technical aspects of rolling stock performance with emphasis on investigation trend identification and specifying remedial action to be taken.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Ensure quality checks/ competency assessments are carried out to comply with safety critical legislation.
  • Deliver team meetings/ staff briefings/ TWYM interviews to develop staff.
  • Liaise with ROSCO's, contractors and suppliers to enhance rolling stock reliability.
  • Access, plan and ensure training to meet competency standards and enhance rolling stock reliability.
  • Deliver the technical audit plans to maintain compliance with maintenance specs. Identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigate and assist development of rolling stock modifications, maintenance specifications, campaign changes and fleet checks to enhance reliability. Implement as appropriate within agreed budget.
  • Formulate/present periodic results and ensure all relevant rolling stock incidents in service are investigated and recommend actions to prevent repeat occurrences. Identify trend analysis and produce reports for senior level investigations.
  • Identify safety non-compliance with rolling stock maintenance and produce, in part, local remedial actions.
  • Joint investigation into warranty claims.
  • Carry out disciplinary investigations as may be required.
  • Production of local technical briefs
  • Undertake additional tasks applicable to role as required by the Depot Manager.
  • Provide cover for Depot Manager
  • Recruitment responsibilities

You'll need to be:

  • Appropriate electrical/mechanical engineering qualifications essential.
  • High level of literacy, numeric and IT skills.
  • 3-5 years of technical management/ supervisory and shop floor experience.
  • Completion of relevant apprenticeship highly desirable.
  • Technical and practical knowledge of relevant rolling stock highly desirable.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of safety legislation and quality procedures.
  • Experience in analysis audit solutions essential.
  • Investigation/management of rail infrastructure interface incidents highly desirable.

About the location

Wimbledon Traincare Depot is a short walk from Wimbledon Park station and recently welcomed its first Class 701 train, marking a significant milestone in the £1bn transformation of suburban travel. Our current fleet operating on the suburban network (Class 455 and 458  trains) will be replaced over a 2 year period with 90 brand new 701's. Drivers, maintenance and other depot colleagues are currently in training to develop the new skills needed for the next generation of trains that will be fitted with all new modern technology. Wimbledon depot will eventually become the new maintenance home for the entire Class 701 fleet.

Working pattern

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days

Office Hours, but includes an On Call commitment.
