About the job

The holder of this post is responsible for providing an effective service for technical, quality and safety matters to the Depot Manager, Technical Performance Manager and depot management team. The holder will adhere to depot protection, safety, quality and environmental procedures, rules and regulations in force.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Work to laid down specifications and depot quality systems/working instructions both Fleet Engineering and local.
  • Carry out train related audits/in process checks and formulate action plans.
  • Investigate safety critical rolling stock incidents and compile relevant formal reports. Make recommendations to increase reliability on individual and trend failures.
  • Analyse downloads to supplement complex fault finding.
  • Support maintenance staff to undertake their duties effectively.
  • Mentor apprentices and contractors as required.
  • Supply modifications or campaign component change support to the depot and Fleet Engineering.
  • Produce technical briefs and work instructions for train related activities.
  • Investigate train failures to support performance PPM growth and delay minute appropriation.

You'll need to be:

  • Appropriate electrical/mechanical engineering qualification essential.
  • At least three years experience working in a rolling stock depot, preferably as an E.M.O. Technician and apprentice trained in a related industry.
  • Report writing, numeric and IT skills essential.
  • Understanding of rolling stock safety legislation and quality procedures highly desirable.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering drawings and electrical/pneumatic diagrams.

About the location

Wimbledon Traincare Depot is a short walk from Wimbledon Park station and recently launched our new Class 701 fleet, marking a significant milestone in the £1bn transformation of suburban travel. Drivers, maintenance and other depot colleagues are currently in training to develop the new skills needed for this generation of train that will be fitted with all new modern technology. Wimbledon depot will eventually become the new maintenance home for the entire Class 701 fleet.

Working pattern

Working on average 37 hours over 5 days.
