About the job

As a Stores MB2 you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective running of the stores function; receiving, handling and issuing stock coming into or going out of the stores; carrying out all duties to ISO 9002 quality procedures ensuring work is undertaken in a safe manner.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure set stock levels are maintained using the computer system, reordering goods to sustain correct quantities.
  • Issue materials to depot staff, ensuring all paperwork completed.
  • Receive goods from trade and various suppliers verifying receipt against invoices.
  • Enter details of received goods onto the computer system.
  • Arrange for damaged goods /material to be sent for repair.
  • Issue and receive depot to depot transfers.
  • Undertake daily, monthly and shelf life stock checks, reporting on stock and reordering levels.
  • Count and record the number of items in store during stock taking.
  • Compile regular stock reports including stock levels and damages.
  • Check and action daily reports from IMACS.
  • Carry out daily checks of traction fuel and compile returns.
  • Return repairable items to authorised overhauler / repair site.
  • Monitor and progress controlled items and outstanding orders via IMACS report.
  • Determine best methods of storage working within COSHH and other safety regulations.
  • Ensure stores area is kept neat and tidy undertaking cleaning duties as necessary.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Comply with safety systems and responsibilities at all times.
  • Develop a pro-active approach to safety and quality issues.
  • Ensure your personal safety and that of others at all times.
  • Carry out emergency procedures when required.
  • Report any irregularities, faults or unusual occurrences in the prescribed manner, maintaining a written record.
  • Wear uniform and safety clothing, including name badge.
  • Participate in all staff briefings to ensure you are informed of all relevant information.
  • Examine all notices, publications and instructions.

Additional Activities:

  • Additional tasks as specified by Local Manager.
  • Principle accountabilities may differ from Depot to Depot and you will be required to sign a formal job description.

About the location

Bournemouth Depot is home to a number of South Western Railway's fleet. The engineering team at the depot are currently responsible for numerous projects such as the major component overhaul work on the 159 fleet, the Desiro repaint on the class 444's and 450's and the latest modification project on our exciting new Arterio fleet that is set to transform travel on our suburban routes by offering customers much faster and more reliable journeys!

Working pattern

On average you will work 37 hours per week over 3.5 days.

This will include a mixture of early, late and night shifts across 7 days. 

Typical Shifts:

07.00 - 15.00 / 07.30-18.30 / 20.00-06.00
