About the job

The purpose of this role is to drive improvements in station cleanliness through effective management of the Stations Cleaning Contract; ensuring customers experience a clean, well-presented station environment. Through the delivery of this purpose, the post-holder will create more pleasant journeys for the communities we serve, helping bring people together to get the most out of life. The post-holder will deliver the purpose by working collaboratively with internal colleagues, and providing robust management of the cleaning contractor.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Manage the delivery of the Stations Cleaning Contract to ensure successful delivery of all KPIs and standards within budgeted expenditure. Act as the principal point of contact between SWR and the cleaning contractor.
  • Intervene where standards are not met, ensuring the adequacy of the contractor's response to any missed KPI or unacceptable standard of delivery.
  • Ensure contractor's compliance with procedural and safety processes / requirements (including RAMS, COSHH) alongside staff training/knowledge.
  • Report to internal and external stakeholders on the performance of the contractor, planned and delivered work, etc.
  • Lead the contractor in the planning and delivery of the ‘Deep' cleaning programme at all stations. Ensure a bespoke schedule of work is planned and delivered at all stations, liaising with station teams to cover local requirements.
  • Lead the contractor in the planning and delivery of the traincrew accommodation cleaning programme. Liaise with local stakeholders to ensure a bespoke schedule of work is planned and delivered.
  • Seek opportunities to improve the efficiency of the above cleaning operations while maintaining/enhancing standards
  • Work with the procurement team to lead on contractual issues, procurement, and mobilisation.
  • Lead on finance and budget issues, including tracking expenditure, raising Purchase Orders etc.
  • Support the Station Presentation Improvement Manager in the development and delivery of action plans to improve Service Quality scores or Customer Experience (particularly in relation to deep cleaning).
  • Support and cross-cover for the Station Presentation Improvement Manager.

You'll need to be:

  • Experience of monitoring others against KPIs
  • Experience in holding stakeholders to account
  • Knowledge of the drivers of customer experience
  • Experience and Skills in stakeholder management
  • Experience and Skills in communication, presentation and reporting
  • Skills in Microsoft Excel (basic working proficiency), Word (proficient) and Powerpoint (proficient)

Desirable

  • Knowledge of cleaning best practice
  • Experience in contract management
  • Knowledge and Experience of the OJEU procurement process
  • Experience and Skills in delivering Improvement Plans
  • Experience and Skills in budget management
  • Experience of driving improvements in Customer Experience
  • Experience and Skills in investigating issues/incidents to find the underlying cause
  • Knowledge of / Experience in railway operations
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations

About the location

South Western Railways HQ is based on the 4th Floor at South Bank Central, a stone's throw from the River Thames and a 10 minute walk from our busiest station, Waterloo. It is local to many well-known attractions, restaurants and retail facilities and is easily accessible by public transport.
