About the job

The holder of this post is responsible for carrying out body repairs, preparing and painting vehicles using a 2 pack system. Other duties will include testing, completing relevant paperwork and cleaning of equipment after use.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Overhaul and repair of units as allocated by the C6 Project Manager to relevant overhaul specifications.
  • To prepare vehicles for spraying, including masking out.
  • Carry out depot accident reporting procedures.
  • Mix paint.
  • Ensure all work is carried out to laid down specifications.
  • To carry out full body repairs.
  • Record all work carried out on prescribed documentation.
  • Rectifying damaged finished areas.
  • Obtain materials from stores to enable job to be carried out. Inform C6 Project Manager/Team leader immediately of any shortfalls/problems.
  • Advise C6 Project Manager of all work arising and any difficulties encountered.
  • Carry out relevant pre-release testing and fault diagnosis, complete relevant paper work prior to unit leaving the depot.
  • Obtain, use, care for and return all specialist equipment.
  • Adhere to depot protection procedures.
  • Work to be undertaken to comply with ISO9002/14001 Depot Quality Procedure.
  • Work to be undertaken in a safe manner/carry out personal protection.
  • Clean all equipment used.
  • Train and instruct staff as necessary.
  • Within the depot, control depot protection and connection of power supplies.
  • Liaise with the Team leader/ Project Manager with respect to shunt moves, ensuring they are planned in a timely manner.

You'll need to be:

You must be skilled in paint mixing, spraying and preparation on a large industrial scale such as marine, aircraft or automotive.

  • You must be skilled in paint mixing, spraying and preparation on a large industrial scale such as marine, aircraft or automotive.
  • You'll need a recognised qualification
  • A pragmatic, practical and safety-conscious approach.
  • Ideally, you'll have experience of working in an environment where vehicle/plant downtime is limited in order to meet customer or operational needs.
  • Applicants requiring a visa, must have at least 6 months remaining at the start of employment.

Applicants travelling time to the stations location must not exceed 60 minutes.

About the location

Bournemouth Depot is home to a number of South Western Railway's fleet. The engineering team at the depot are currently responsible for numerous projects such as the major component overhaul work on the 159 fleet, the Desiro repaint on the class 444's and 450's and the latest modification project on our exciting new Arterio fleet that is set to transform travel on our suburban routes by offering customers much faster and more reliable journeys!

Working pattern

You will work an average of 37 hours per week over 4.5 day

Shift details:

Week 1 - 07:30 to 15:30 Monday to Friday

Week 2 - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 19:30 to 06:30, Thursday 19:30 to 02:30
