About the job

Provide a Data Analysis and a secretarial/clerical support service to the Head of Operational Standards.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Be a Personal Assistant to the Head of Operational Standards by managing diaries and daily workload.
  • Support the operational standards team by arranging conferences, meetings, and accommodation and travel documents.
  • Effectively monitor the Operational Safety of the South Western Railway, including analysis and identification of emerging trends in comparison with other railway undertakings and theoretical best practice where appropriate and advising the Head of Operational Standards accordingly.
  • Provide statistical analysis to identify correlations and trends relating to key areas of operational safety risk within the South Western Railway in order to reduce the risk exposure and planning for improvements.
  • Produce key operational safety and performance reports on behalf of the Head of Operational Standards for review at key meetings.
  • Represent South Western Railway at key internal and industry groups as determined by the Head of Operational Standards
  • Take minutes of meetings as required
  • Process Operational Standards financial transactions
  • Support the Operations Standards team with ACMS and eDepot support

You'll need:

  • Should be proficient in statistical analysis and able to interpret complex data and identify trends using a variety of software packages (including Microsoft Excel)
  • Attention to detail and good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence the behaviour of front-line employees is essential, as is the ability to produce accurate reports to tight timescales.
  • Ability to tailor reports to the needs of different audiences.
  • Experience in people management preferable, but candidate must demonstrate an aptitude for people management as a minimum.
  • Secretarial and PA skills

About the location

South Western Railways HQ is based on the 4th Floor at South Bank Central, a stone's throw from the River Thames and a 10 minute walk from our busiest station, Waterloo. It is local to many well-known attractions, restaurants and retail facilities and is easily accessible by public transport. 

Working pattern

You will work an average of 37 hours per week, typically, office hours, Monday - Friday.
