About the job:

To deliver evidence based occupational health services to South Western Railway working with the wider occupational health team, HR and managers of the business. To undertake assessments of SWR employees competently and complying with Railway, Company and Departmental standards where applicable. Deliver wellbeing initiatives in line with the company wellbeing strategy to SWR employees.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Undertaking clinical case management to support SWR attendance management processes and recognising and appropriately manage occupational ill health and ensuring correct reporting of cases.
  • Undertake health surveillance activities as required for SWR – Noise, Havs, Night-workers, Spirometry utilising and directing the OHPN when required and appropriate
  • Deliver health promotion activities as agreed in wellbeing strategy to SWR within budget and timescales agreed in strategy document
  • Undertake medical assessments including ancillary medical checks: eyesight, audiometry, lung function testing, ECGs etc to support the OHPN.
  • Undertake drug and alcohol screening complying with chain of custody requirements as required.
  • Undertake capability and risk assessments as required for individual SWR employees when required giving expert advice to individual managers and the businesses.
  • Undertake home visits and workplace assessments as necessary to give expert advice and case management and to support managers delivering the attendance procedures.
  • Demonstrate clinical competency to undertake all aspects of the role with commitment to undertake appropriate development in areas of development and ensure meets/strives to meet OH nursing competency framework at KSF level 2
  • Deputise for Senior OHNA if required to deliver Drug and Alcohol awareness training and Chain of Care Training as required according to the business needs.
  • If required to undertake private referrals to relevant specialists once the business case has been confirmed. 

As a minimum, you will need to have:

  • Registered General Nurse
  • 3 year post qualification experience
  • Degree in Occupational Health essential
  • Knowledge of health surveillance processes and able to deliver to the business
  • Competent, qualified and registered to undertake HAVS assessments desirable but not essential
  • Able to undertake capability and risk assessments in line with business processes
  • IT skills – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Maintain NMC registration and RCN membership 

About the location:

Overline House is conveniently situated overlooking Southampton Central Station and is easily accessible by public transport. The station is very local to West Quay, a hub for retailers and restaurants, and provides an excellent link between London, Coastal areas and the Isle of Wight.

Working pattern:

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days 

08:30-16:30, Monday to Friday
