About the job

The Occupational Health Clinical Manager provides clinical guidance and leadership within the occupational health team, reporting to the Head of Wellbeing. They ensure the delivery of a high-quality service that promotes employee health, prevents work-related illnesses, and supports workplace well-being.

Your main responsibilities will be:

Clinical Leadership:

  • Provide expert clinical advice and support to the occupational health team.  Manage and provide professional leadership to Occupational Health Nurse Advisers (OHNA), technicians and the wider multidisciplinary team within the Occupational Health department.
  • To assist the Head of Wellbeing in leading and advancing clinical practice in line with guidelines and legislation.
  • Undertake defined projects as agreed with the Head of Wellbeing to support the delivery of high quality clinically effective care.
  • To ensure all aspects of the Occupational Health service are delivered within the available resources. To take responsibility for the short and long-term planning and organisation of staff and clinic activity, adjusting as required.
  • Manage the local OH clinical team – including monthly 121's tracking performance, PDR's and ensuring appropriate development, dealing with sickness absence and poor performance issues.  Ensuring that the team meet minimum requirement for clinical capabilities.
  • To support the Head of Wellbeing and deputise as necessary. 

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to health and safety legislation and occupational health standards.  To champion best practice in occupational health provision.
  • To ensure practice is in accordance with the NMCs Code of Professional Conduct

Employee Health Management:

  • To provide all aspects of OH care including consultation, advice, education, testing and immunisations where appropriate and in accordance with departmental protocols.

 Strategic Planning:

  • Support the development and implementation of occupational health strategies.  Assist in the development of the department's business plans and strategy.
  • Working with managers in the business to deliver sickness absence KPI ensuring reduction in sickness absence and thereby improving attendance.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Work closely with HR, management, and external organisation's to promote workplace health.  To provide clear visible professional advice to colleagues and managers at SWR.      

You'll need to be:

  • Registered Nurse or Occupational Health Practitioner with relevant qualifications.
  • Maintain NMC registration and RCN membership ( or other body or provide personal liability insurance cover)
  • Experience in occupational health and clinical leadership with at least 5-year post qualification experience
  • Knowledge of health surveillance, risk assessments, and workplace health promotion.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Applicants who require a visa must have 6 months remaining at the time of their appointment.

About the location

This role will be split between our offices in South Bank Central, London and Overline House, Southampton. Travel around out network may also be required.

Working pattern

You will be working an average of 37 hours per week, typically, Monday - Friday, office hours.
