About the job

The holder of this post is responsible to support the Fleet Depot Manager to ensure that the fleet allocated to Farnham Depot meets all safety, performance, maintenance, quality and train planning requirements. To ensure allocation of rolling stock to appropriate diagrams for the train plan.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Plan, organise, monitor and control all aspects of shift production to ensure all targets are met in terms of performance, availability and reliability of the train service.
  • Rolling stock requiring attention is identified and reported to the WICC to maintain the allocated fleet in good condition.
  • Control the use of materials and levels of manning to ensure that whilst there is adequate of both to progress work, that actual expenditure does not exceed budget.
  • The Movements Manager has the delegated authority to make decisions which will influence the operation of Farnham Depot on a shift basis – specifically;
  • Authority to release units with work outstanding (not safety critical)
  • Authority to call in staff at short notice to cover roster shortfalls (sickness, etc)
  • Altering the normal method of operation within the depot to enable continued operation at times of disruption (within the constraints of Rules/Regulations)
  • Purchase or hire of equipment and tooling necessary to complete outstanding work (within delegated authority
  • The work is controlled to ensure effective performance and compliance to standards, giving technical guidance to staff as necessary.
  • Develop teams and plan for their training, competence assessments to A1 standard, carry out team briefings and be the focal point for communication.
  • The quality of workmanship is maintained at a high level and quality checks/competency assessments are carried out as required.
  • Assistance is given as necessary to engineering, technical and contracted support staff.
  • Use IT systems as necessary to record compliance checks and produce documents relating to safety and environmental briefs.
  • Booking/recording of work is effectively controlled and reported in required time scales using the systems and methods in place.
  • Ensure all work is completed or deferred and recorded before units are allocated to service.
  • Ensure that staff work to appropriate safety regulations, safety instructions and depot operating instructions.
  • Prepare and allocate trains in time for traincrew to take them for service, giving clear instruction to crews as to unit and siding train is in.
  • Ensure that all staff involved in service departures are deployed to minimise the risk to delays to outgoing services.
  • Plan and conduct interviews as necessary for staff selection, discipline, poor performance, M4A, welfare, investigations, etc.

You'll need:

  • A Good general education
  • Good communication skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Experience of IT systems, preferably including TRUST, Genius
  • Good knowledge of operations and a background that demonstrates the ability to use rules and regulations currently in force
  • Ability to compile reports on maintenance records
  • Thorough knowledge of Depot Operating Procedures and safety requirements.
  • The role holder has the authority to investigate and administer the discipline process to investigatory level.
  • Recommend staff training needs.
  • Compilation of staff rosters and grant annual leave.
  • Undertake the Attendance Management process to level 2.  

Applicants who require a visa must have 6 months remaining at the time of their appointment. Training is full time and you must be able to commit to this.

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days

0700-16:15
20:30 - 05:30 
19:00 - 04:30 
20:30-05:45

5 week rolling roster, 5 on 4 off
