About the job

The holder of this post is responsible for controlling all train movements in and out of the depot. You will adhere to depot protection, safety, quality and environmental procedures, rules and regulations in force.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Operation of Fratton Ground Frame and Hand points to control movements into and out of the depot safely.
  • To comply with all relevant rules and regulations.
  • Must adhere to all relevant working instructions for the post, liaise with the duty Movements Manager, depot drivers, shunters and Havant Signaller on movements as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring a clear understanding with train crews of movements from the depot as necessary, to avoid conflicting moves.
  • Carry out/adhere to depot protection procedures.
  • Advise the Movements Manager of any problems or defects identified and work arising from the issues.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Mentor trainee Ground Frame operators
  • Ensure all working areas are kept clean and in a safe condition
  • Perform duties of own grade and below as directed and within competency.
  • Ensure your personal safety and that of others at all times.
  • Comply with all safety systems and responsibilities at all times.
  • Develop a pro-active approach to safety issues.
  • Report any accidents, assaults or near miss occurrences in accordance with local reporting procedures.
  • Report any safety irregularities, faults or unusual occurrences in the prescribed manner.
  • Ensure all relevant PPE for tasks/activities is worn at all times and in accordance with local safety instructions / risk assessments.
  • Participate in all staff briefings to ensure you are informed of all relevant information.
  • Examine all safety procedures, notices, publications, and instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 Series Environmental Management System.
  • Report and clean up all spillages of oil / chemical in accordance with local instructions.
  • Report any environmental incidents to manager / supervisor.
  • Examine all environmental procedures, notices, publications and instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 Series Quality Management System.
  • Carry out all work activities in accordance with local quality procedures.
  • Maintain all documents and records in accordance with relevant quality procedures.
  • Examine all quality procedures, notices, publications, and instructions.
  • Additional tasks as specified by local manager / supervisor.
  • Principle accountabilities may differ from depot to depot and you will be required to sign the job description acknowledgement sheet.

You'll need to be:

  • Successful completion of training and courses relevant to the job.
  • Passed competent in Rules and Regulations.
  • Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative.
  • Thorough knowledge of depot operating instructions/procedures and local safety procedures.

Working pattern

12 hour shifts consisting of days and nights.

0700-1900 / 1900-0700.
