About the job

The Assistant Pricing Manager is responsible for ensuring appropriate fares are made available to customers through all selling channels as agreed with the Pricing Manager. The postholder will learn and remain an expert in the industry Product Management System (PMS) and any other tools required to implement fare changes.

The Assistant Pricing Manager is expected to work closely with the Senior Commercial Development Analyst and Retail team to deliver plans which have been developed to deliver Annual Business Plans, Regulated Fare changes and any other ad-hoc requirements. The Assistant Pricing Manager will be required to provide cover for the Pricing Manager and to represent SWR at Industry level when necessary.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Using the Industry Product Management System (PMS), deliver all fare changes in accordance with instructions from the Department for Transport and any subsequent business decisions as led by the Pricing Manager;
  • Manage and maintain fares and fares related data, as required, to ensure business continuity, including information sharing with relevant parts of the business;
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of SWR's range of fares and related information in order to efficiently and effectively support the business, including information sharing with relevant parts of the business;
  • Respond to fares related queries from across the business, including the Customer Service Centre, station Ticket Offices and the Communications team;
  • Maintain appropriate logs to keep track of known issues with anomalies and flow ownership, with a view to resolving as soon as practical in agreement with the Pricing Manager;
  • Support delivery of any fare changes required as part of the South Western Railway Annual Business Plan, ensuring all changes being implemented have the necessary authority;
  • Work with the Retail team to ensure any requirements for upcoming fare changes which require support from the Retail team are delivered through all appropriate retail channels and fulfilment methods, where necessary highlighting concerns around functionality to the Pricing Manager;
  • Work with the Revenue Management Team and Senior Commercial Development Analyst to make changes to Advance, or similar fares, as agreed by the Senior Commercial Development Manager;
  • Provide cover to represent SWR and attend meetings with other stakeholders, such as other train companies and Rail Delivery Group when the Pricing Manager is unavailable;
  • Provide relevant data or other information as agreed with the Pricing Manager to deliver a periodic update report for the Senior Leadership team, through the Revenue & Commercial Development period report;
  • Regularly liaise with Marketing colleagues to ensure that all product and price changes for advertising and promotional purposes is provided in a timely manner;
  • Engage with front line and customer service staff at locations across the SWR network, to build a clearer understanding of challenges, issues and ideas in relation to Pricing;
  • To assist with the implementation and management of any other aspects of Pricing as and when required, as agreed with the Pricing Manager.

You'll need to be:

  • Numerate, with good analytical, strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of Excel.
  • Ability to quickly learn and work with rail industry specific systems.
  • Ability to work using own initiative and judgement, but also enjoys working in a positive and collaborative environment.
  • Good logical problem solving skills, self-motivated learner.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams.
  • Welcomes changes to strategy, processes or policies where beneficial to business needs

It would be great if you have:

  • Knowledge of GB Rail Industry Pricing structure.
  • Knowledge of SWR specific network, products, pricing, retailing and passenger markets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel across the SWR network to engage and learn from front line staff.

Working pattern

You will work an average of 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday, office hours.
