The Arterio programme reached another milestone last week as the 300th Driver completed their training. This means that nearly half of our Drivers that are due to be trained have now achieved Arterio competency. We also welcomed the 22nd Arterio into passenger service on Monday.

Waterloo Driver James Wishart, who recently completed Arterio training, shared “It’s a privilege to be a part of something big and my experience of Arterios so far has been fantastic. In comparison, the Arterios and the other trains that we drive are like night and day. I really like these trains and think a lot of other drivers, as well as our customers, will like them as well.”

Operations Trainer, Dave Pinch said: “I’ve been involved in training Drivers on Arterios for 18 months now, and almost everyone reaches the end of the course impressed with the trains and keen to get back to their depot and start driving them.”

It’s taken a big team effort to get to this point with contributions from many colleagues including Operations Trainer Gary Sayers who produced all the course material that has been used to train over 300 Drivers so far and Michelle Hague-Trawka and Safianu Alhassan-Molla from the Centralised Roster Office, who are arranging the release of the Drivers and Guards to attend the courses.

Aaron Sweet, Senior Arterio Mobilisation Manager, added “We are introducing more services to the network at pace. This shows the remarkable efforts and collaboration among teams, including the Operations Training and Safety Training Centre, as well as our Driver and On Train teams.”

Each new unit coming into service significantly boosts capacity and brings extra benefits for customers including on board Wi-Fi, at-seat charging points, fully accessible toilets, real-time information screens, air conditioning, and walk-through carriages.
