Together with Network Rail, we held a Career Transition Partnership event for service leavers on Thursday 6 November at Basingstoke ROC. The event included a Control tour, Engineering insights, presentations from Guard, Driver, Rail Community Officer, and CX Innovation colleagues. The mini career fair also offered opportunities to network with departments and hiring managers. Thank you to colleagues who provided guidance and advice for nearly 40 attendees.

SWR has strong ties with the military, and we are now working towards the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award under the Armed Forces Covenant. The scheme acknowledges employers that provide exceptional support to the Armed Forces community. If you are currently a Reservist, you are entitled to up to 10 days paid leave each year to help you meet your commitments to the Reserve Forces. Cadet Force Adult Volunteers are given up to three days of unpaid CFAV leave days every calendar year.

We are also helping others to get involved and if you’re aware of any business interested in supporting the community, please reach out to beverley.sharp@swrailway.com who will put them in touch with the relevant contact. These initiatives show our active support for the Armed
Forces and our commitment is also reflected in SERVED, a network of colleagues with military backgrounds and our involvement with our charity partner Scotty’s Little Soldiers, who supports bereaved military children.
